Two individuals have been arraigned at the Kibera Law Courts over a violent incident involving assault and death threats against a visiting foreign national at a popular entertainment spot in Parklands.
The suspects, Rahiel Daud and Hikesh Motwani, who are linked to the management of Taal Lounge, appeared in court and pleaded not guilty to charges of assault causing actual bodily harm and issuing threats to kill. They were remanded at Parklands Police Station pending a bond and bail hearing scheduled for March 30, 2026.
According to investigators from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the incident occurred in the early hours of March 24, 2026, at around 3:00 a.m. The complainant, an Indian national visiting Kenya, had been at the lounge with a friend when a disagreement arose over their bill, despite having already settled payment for their drinks.
The situation escalated when they sought clarification from management, leading to the involvement of Hikesh Motwani, identified as the establishment’s owner. During the confrontation, Motwani allegedly assaulted the complainant’s companion.
When the complainant intervened, Rahiel Daud reportedly joined the altercation, punching him and striking him on the head with an object, resulting in visible injuries and heavy bleeding. Investigators further state that Daud issued threats to kill the complainant during the incident, leaving him fearing for his life.

The injured complainant was rushed to M.P. Shah Hospital, where he received treatment. A P3 form—a key medical document used in criminal cases—was issued and completed to support the investigation. Police also recorded statements from the complainant and witnesses present at the scene.
Detectives from Parklands Police Station moved swiftly following the report, leading to the arrest and subsequent arraignment of the suspects.
The case has drawn attention to safety concerns in Nairobi’s nightlife scene, particularly involving disputes between patrons and establishment management. Similar incidents in recent years have raised questions about conflict handling, use of force, and accountability within entertainment venues across the city.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice, emphasizing that individuals involved in violent conduct will be held accountable regardless of their position or influence.
The matter will proceed through the courts, with the upcoming bail hearing expected to determine the next phase of the case.
