Bow and Arrow Attack Kills GSU Officer at State House
A General Service Unit (GSU) officer was killed in a shocking bow and arrow attack at State House Nairobi on Monday, October 13, 2025. The incident triggered an immediate lockdown of the presidential compound.
Attack Occurs Near President Ruto’s Residence
The assault happened at around 8:10 a.m. at Gate D—a key screening point for vehicles and pedestrians. President William Ruto was on the premises at the time.
The attacker, identified as 56-year-old Kithuka, posed as a street dweller. He carried a sack containing a bow and arrows.
Suspect Ambushes Officer During Security Clearance
After being turned away, Kithuka hid behind a vehicle. He waited until two officers cleared a distracted car. Then he shot Police Constable Ramadhan Mattanka in the left ribs.
Swift Arrest, Ongoing Investigation
Other GSU officers quickly subdued and arrested the suspect. Police say he intended to cause more harm but was stopped in time.
The National Police Service condemned the attack. An investigation is now probing the motive and whether it was a lone-wolf act.
Security Lapses Under Scrutiny
Questions are mounting over how a civilian with primitive weapons breached one of Kenya’s most secure zones. Authorities are reviewing protocols at Gate D.
Police Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga confirmed the suspect is in custody at Kimani Police Station. A full forensic and intelligence review is underway.
