GSU Officer Guarding State House Killed in Spear Attack

General Service Unit(GSU) officers during operation

A General Service Unit (GSU) officer deployed at State House Nairobi was killed in a shocking spear attack on Monday, October 13, 2025. The incident occurred outside Gate D—a key security checkpoint for pedestrians and vehicles entering the presidential compound.

Attack Occurs During Presidential Departure

The officer was on duty when a man in his 50s, posing as a street dweller, approached the gate carrying a large sack. Inside was a spear, which he used to strike the officer in the left chest. The assault happened as two other officers were preoccupied clearing a vehicle.

The timing coincided with President William Ruto’s scheduled departure for Konza City in Machakos County, though there is no indication the President was in immediate danger.

Suspect Arrested, Cites Supernatural Motive

The attacker was swiftly subdued by fellow officers and arrested. Authorities opted against using lethal force to allow for interrogation. During questioning, the suspect claimed he was “sent by Satan” to carry out the attack.

The injured officer was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital but succumbed to his wounds shortly after arrival.

Second GSU Fatality in 24 Hours

This marks the second death of a GSU officer within less than a day. On Sunday evening, another GSU officer assigned to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) was strangled to death during a dispute at an Embakasi hotel off Mombasa Road. His body was later found in a water-filled trench.

The back-to-back killings have raised alarm over the safety of security personnel, even in high-security zones like State House.

The police are fully investigating the spear attack. They are examining the suspect’s mental state and extremist links.
