The National Funeral Committee has announced an additional public viewing opportunity for the late Raila Odinga on Friday. Deputy President Kithure Kindiki confirmed the extension during an evening briefing on Thursday.

Mourners will have access to view the former Prime Minister’s body starting at noon on Friday. This decision follows Thursday’s limited viewing time at Kasarani Stadium. The extension aims to accommodate more Kenyans wishing to pay their final respects.

Extended Viewing Hours Announced

Deputy President Kindiki, who co-chairs the funeral committee, provided the updated schedule. The public viewing will commence after the conclusion of the state funeral service at Nyayo National Stadium. The committee intends to keep the viewing open for as long as necessary to serve all mourners.

Thursday’s viewing experienced logistical challenges that delayed the body’s arrival at Kasarani Stadium. The late start limited public access, prompting the committee to arrange this additional opportunity. Many mourners had left the venue before viewing even began due to the delays.

State Funeral Programme Continues

The state funeral service at Nyayo National Stadium will proceed as scheduled on Friday morning. The event will begin at 8:00 AM and conclude by midday. Several foreign heads of state and international delegations are expected to attend the requiem mass.

Following the formal state event, the public viewing will immediately begin at the stadium. The committee will provide another update on funeral arrangements at 6:30 PM on Friday. The comprehensive schedule remains largely unchanged despite the viewing extension.

Final Journey to Western Kenya

The body of the former Prime Minister will travel to Kisumu on Saturday as previously planned. Another public viewing event will be held at Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Mamboleo. This will provide Western Kenya residents with their opportunity to pay tribute.

The funeral programme concludes on Sunday with a service at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University. The final burial will take place at the family home in Kang’o Ka Jaramogi. The committee continues to balance public demand with the family’s wish for a timely burial within the 72-hour window.
