Kibra MP Orero’s Driver Fined Ksh100,000 for Obstructing Traffic

Kibra Member of Parliament Peter Orero’s driver, George Oduor, has been fined Ksh100,000 after pleading guilty to obstructing traffic and dangerous overtaking.

Police arraigned Oduor before the Milimani Traffic Court after a viral video showed him blocking other motorists along Oloitoktok Road in Nairobi. The footage caused public outrage, prompting swift police action.

The prosecution told the court that on October 9, Oduor dangerously overtook several vehicles, disrupting traffic flow and endangering other road users.

Plea for Leniency

When the magistrate read the charges, Oduor admitted to the offence and asked for leniency. He told the court that he was rushing to the airport at the time of the incident.

“I am sorry, Your Honour. I was in a hurry to drop someone at the airport and I will not repeat the offence,” he said.

Magistrate Imposes Maximum Fine

The presiding magistrate acknowledged Oduor’s remorse but noted that the law provides a maximum fine of Ksh100,000 for the offence.

“I have considered your mitigation, but the law provides a fine of Ksh100,000. I will therefore impose the maximum penalty,” ruled the magistrate.

Oduor was ordered to pay the fine immediately. The case serves as a reminder of the government’s firm stance on enforcing road discipline and deterring reckless driving, even among VIP convoys.
