FIFA has officially unveiled Trionda, the match ball for the 2026 World Cup. The ball blends modern technology with cultural elements from the three host nations—the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
A Symbol of Unity for Three Nations
Unveiled in New York by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, Trionda’s design reflects the unique nature of the 2026 tournament—the first ever hosted by three countries and featuring a record 48 teams.
The ball showcases red, blue, and green colors, symbolizing the flags of the host nations. Its surface also incorporates distinctive national symbols: Canada’s maple leaf, Mexico’s eagle, and the stars of the United States. The triangular motif at its core represents the unity of the three countries.
Advanced Technology for Modern Football
Beyond aesthetics, Trionda carries high-tech features designed by Adidas, the German sportswear giant that has supplied World Cup balls since 1970.
Deep seams improve in-flight stability, giving players more consistent control.
Embossed textures enhance grip in wet or humid conditions.
A built-in motion sensor chip tracks the ball’s movement in real time, feeding data directly to the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system for greater accuracy.
This innovation follows the trend of smart balls, first seen at the 2022 Qatar World Cup, which provided referees with additional data during key match incidents.
Countdown to the 2026 World Cup
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will run from June 11 to July 19, taking place in stadiums across North America. More than 4.5 million fans from 216 countries have already applied for tickets through FIFA’s presale system.
