Police, Auctioneers Raid Naivasha MP Jayne Kihara’s Home, Seize Car and Livestock
Armed police officers on Thursday accompanied auctioneers to the home of Naivasha Member of Parliament Jayne Kihara, where they reportedly seized one of her vehicles along with goats and sheep.
Raid Linked to Ongoing Election Petition
According to initial reports, the raid was allegedly connected to an election petition between Kihara and a former Naivasha MP. Kihara claimed that the action was politically motivated and intended to intimidate her for her continued support of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
“The OCS had called me saying he was under pressure to implement an order by the auctioneers, and I told him that I should be present when it was carried out,” she said.
Kihara further revealed that she was surprised by the operation, noting that a petition related to the case was still pending at the Court of Appeal, and questioned how her political rival had obtained a court order permitting the seizure.
“All the goats and sheep taken belong to my son as I do not have any livestock, and the hired youths stole some of the animals during the raid,” she added.
Previous Run-Ins with Police
The latest raid comes just weeks after police stormed Kihara’s home during a meeting, an incident she captured on a livestream. The MP was bundled into a police car and taken to Naivasha Police Station before being released on a KSh50,000 bond.
Tension Over Kenya Railways Land
Earlier on Thursday, Kihara joined angry residents in protesting what they termed as illegal development on Kenya Railways land in Naivasha. The MP accused the government of concealing details about a multi-billion-shilling project and demanded transparency on the investors behind it.
“The President must tell Kenyans who is developing the Kenya Railways land in Naivasha town,” Kihara stated.
She added that residents had not forgotten the mass evictions carried out three years ago, during which property worth millions of shillings was destroyed.
