33-Seater Lopha Sacco Bus Torched on Thika Superhighway After Fatal Accident
Lopha Sacco bus torched in Juja: A 33-seater Lopha Sacco bus was set ablaze by angry residents in Juja, Kiambu County, on November 2, 2025, after it struck and killed a pedestrian along Thika Road.
Fatal Crash Sparks Mob Justice
The minibus reportedly lost control near Juja town and hit the victim, killing him instantly. Boda boda riders and local residents quickly gathered at the scene, attacked the driver, and then torched the vehicle.
Footage showed the bus fully engulfed in flames as onlookers watched from a distance. The fire destroyed the bus beyond repair. Only a charred metal frame remained. No one reported any injuries from the arson.
Traffic Disruption and Police Response
The incident disrupted traffic on the busy Thika Superhighway, a key route linking Nairobi CBD to Kiambu. Motorists were forced to seek detours. Police later arrived, cordoned off the area, and urged residents to disperse.
Rising Concerns Over Mob Violence
The attack has reignited concerns about mob justice in the region, especially involving boda boda riders. In a near-identical incident on September 1, a Super Metro bus burned. The fire started after it hit a boda rider in Juja. That bus also went up in flames following public outrage.
Super Metro later issued a statement calling the crash unintentional and expressed condolences to the victim’s family. Yet, such incidents continue to highlight a troubling pattern of vigilante responses to road accidents.
Authorities are now calling for calm and urging citizens to let the law handle traffic crimes—not mobs.
