Rigathi Gachagua Mount Kenya traitors warning
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has vowed to name and shame Mount Kenya traitors, accusing several leaders of betraying the region for political gain ahead of the 2027 elections.
Gachagua’s Pledge to “Expose Traitors”
Speaking during a church service in Mwea, Kirinyaga County, Gachagua alleged a deliberate plan within the Kenya Kwanza administration to divide the Mount Kenya voting bloc by encouraging the formation of smaller political parties.
He claimed that President William Ruto was using some of his allies in the region to scatter support, saying he would personally identify those responsible.
“Let us agree on what I will do. Wherever I go in Mount Kenya, I will be calling out the traitors by name so that people know them. Whether you are a man or a woman, we will tell our people who the traitors are so that the President doesn’t finish this community,” Gachagua declared.
Gachagua Targets Anne Waiguru
The former DP singled out Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru. He accused her of planning to form a new political party. He claimed this was part of a scheme to weaken regional unity. Waiguru is currently serving her second term as governor. She is reportedly eyeing a Senate seat in 2027. She has not yet responded to Gachagua’s claims.
“I know Waiguru has been told to form a party. That is a wheelbarrow. If you see that party, know it is a wheelbarrow,” he remarked.
Gachagua further warned women leaders from the region that they would not be spared if they were part of what he described as “betrayal of the community.”
“Our women leaders, those of you betraying our community, we will deal with you as traitors,” he said. “There is no distinction between men and women. A traitor is a traitor.”
Political Tension in Mount Kenya
Gachagua also criticized the government’s decision on rice imports. He blamed the impasse between farmers and the state on local leaders’ silence.
People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua, who attended the same service, dismissed claims of opposition disunity, saying a unified opposition candidate to face Ruto in 2027 would be announced soon.
His fiery remarks came a day after he accused President Ruto of double standards. He criticized Ruto for meeting KANU leader Gideon Moi. He argued that his own mobilization efforts in Mount Kenya were often labeled as tribal.
