Popular Kikuyu Gospel Musician Betty Bayo Dies After Cancer Battle

Renowned Kikuyu gospel artist Betty Bayo has died after a prolonged battle with blood cancer. She passed away on Monday, November 10, 2025, at Kenyatta National Hospital, where she had been receiving treatment.
Betty Bayo Succumbs to Leukaemia
Born Beatrice Wairimu Mbugua, Betty Bayo was widely loved for her soulful voice and uplifting songs, including the hit Eleventh Hour. Her ex-partner, Pastor Victor Mwangi Kanyari—father of her two children—confirmed her death, describing her as irreplaceable.
“It hurts in ways I can’t explain,” Kanyari wrote. “You left before I could say everything I needed to… you’ll always be missed.”
Bishop Benson Gathungu Kamau revealed that Betty Bayo had been fighting advanced-stage leukaemia. “She leaves behind a legacy of praise, friendship, and a soul that maximised its full potential,” he said.
Tributes Pour In from Gospel Community
Fellow gospel artist and Inooro TV anchor Wakarura Wa Nyutu shared an emotional tribute, recalling their last meeting on November 3: “We laughed, we talked, and I truly hoped you would be well. And now you’re no more.”
Signs of her declining health surfaced in August 2025, when she posted a photo wearing an oxygen mask, citing cold weather complications—though she kept the full extent of her illness private.
A Legacy of Faith and Music
Betty Bayo’s music resonated deeply with Kenyan audiences for its relatable messages of hope and divine timing. Her passing marks a significant loss to the gospel music industry and her devoted fanbase.
