Media personality Oga Obinna has suspended all personal, one-on-one charitable activities following days of intense online backlash linking him to the tragic death of Gengetone and Mugithi artist Shalkido.

In a statement issued by his management on Thursday, October 9, Obinna announced that he would no longer offer direct assistance to individuals, citing “persistent defamation” from social media users and bloggers exploiting his charitable acts for engagement.

“This decision follows persistent defamation by online bloggers and social media users who have weaponised acts of kindness for views, likes, and engagement,” Obinna said.

He added that his personal efforts to help people—intended to uplift those in need—had met with “malicious trolling and profound ingratitude.”

Obinna Clarifies His Charity Work Will Continue Through Official Channels

The YouTuber and radio host clarified that his decision only affects personal charitable gestures, not his broader philanthropic initiatives.

He affirmed that Obinna TV Studios’ CSR programmes and the Obinna TV Foundation will continue operating as scheduled.

“Going forward, all personal, direct assistance to individuals will cease, including responses to unsolicited requests for help and any other one-on-one charitable interventions outside the foundation,” the statement read.

Legal Action Over Defamation Claims

Obinna also warned that his legal team is preparing defamation lawsuits against individuals and bloggers spreading what he described as “unwarranted and defamatory remarks.”

“Individuals, bloggers, and content creators publishing unverified or defamatory remarks will face legal action. Documentation is underway, and accountability will be pursued to the fullest extent of the law,” he stated.

Background: Shalkido’s Tragic Death

Shalkido, a former member of the Sailors Gang, died on Monday, following a motorbike accident in Thika. The accident occurred shortly after he parted ways with Obinna following an event.

Obinna was among the first people to publicly confirm the news of the accident. However, a section of Kenyans criticized him online, questioning why he allowed Shalkido to use a motorbike instead of giving him a lift in his car.

The incident came just months after Obinna hosted the artist on his YouTube show, where Shalkido spoke about his financial struggles. Following the interview, Kenyans of goodwill, led by Eric Omondi’s Sisi Kwa Sisi initiative, bought him a motorbike to start a boda boda business.

Tragically, that same motorbike later caused the accident that claimed his life.
