Goon Mobilizer Arrested as Police Target Organized Criminal Networks

Ten Arrested in Siaya as Police Intensify Crackdown on Violent Gangs

Security agencies have intensified efforts to dismantle organized criminal networks in Trans-Nzoia County, leading to the arrest of a suspected goon mobilizer believed to be at the center of coordinated criminal activities in the region. The operation, described as intelligence-led and highly coordinated, brought together officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the Administration Police Service, and the General Service Unit, alongside local police units.

The prime suspect, identified as Andrew Kimungui Wamalwa, was arrested following a targeted raid on his residence. According to investigators, the operation was based on credible intelligence linking him to the mobilisation and financing of groups commonly referred to as “goons,” who have been associated with a wave of insecurity in parts of the county.

During the search, officers recovered a range of items believed to be connected to his activities, including reflector jackets suspected to be used during mobilization exercises, stickers, and three swords. Authorities say these materials point to a structured and deliberate effort to organize and deploy groups capable of carrying out coordinated acts of violence and intimidation.

Preliminary findings suggest that Wamalwa played a significant role in mobilizing individuals within the Kipsongo area, where residents have reported rising cases of criminal activity. Investigators believe the network may have been involved in incidents that disrupted public order and threatened the safety of communities across Trans-Nzoia.

In a related operation conducted in the Mitume and Miti Moja neighborhoods of Kitale, law enforcement officers arrested eleven additional suspects believed to be part of the same or related networks. The individuals—Ken Onyango, Felix Odhiambo, Simon Wafula, Maxwell Ochieng, Ian Fwamba, Nesta Otieno, Reagan Odhiambo, Stanley Yasiro, James Odipo, Duncan Elisha, and Hilary Wafula—were apprehended during a sweep targeting areas identified as hotspots for criminal activity.

At the time of their arrest, officers recovered several items suspected to have been stolen from members of the public, including laptops and gas cylinders. These recoveries have strengthened the case against the suspects and provided further evidence of organized looting and criminal operations within the affected areas.

All suspects are currently in custody undergoing processing, with authorities preparing to present them in court. Investigations remain ongoing, with security agencies actively pursuing additional suspects and financiers believed to be behind the broader network.

The operation marks a significant step in efforts to curb what authorities describe as the growing menace of organized goonism—a phenomenon that has increasingly been linked to coordinated violence, political disruption, and criminal enterprise in various parts of the country.

Law enforcement agencies have reiterated their commitment to restoring order and ensuring the safety of residents, emphasizing that operations will continue until all individuals involved in such networks are brought to justice. At the same time, they have called on members of the public to cooperate with authorities by providing information that could aid in ongoing investigations.

As the crackdown continues, the developments in Trans-Nzoia highlight the evolving nature of organized crime at the local level and the need for sustained, intelligence-driven interventions to protect communities and uphold the rule of law.
