The main suspect in university student Sheryl Ohanga’s murder has been detained for four days as police finalize investigations into the case.

Court Orders Four-Day Detention

Cliff Ocharo, accused of killing Moi University student Sheryl Ohanga, appeared before Magistrate Beryl Achieng at the Nyamira Law Court on Tuesday. The prosecution sought more time to complete investigations, citing pending medical and forensic examinations.

The court directed police to hold Ocharo at Nyamira Police Station for four days.. During this period, he will undergo a mental assessment, while pathologists finalize the post-mortem examination report.

Ongoing Investigations

Police sources indicate that investigators are reviewing witness statements and forensic findings to establish the motive behind the killing. The victim, a Moi University student, was reportedly found dead under unclear circumstances, prompting a major investigation in Nyamira County.

Authorities have assured the public that justice will be pursued diligently. The DCI is still coordinating. They work with forensic experts. This ensures a comprehensive probe. The case will then go to trial.

The murder of Sheryl Ohanga has sparked widespread concern among university students and the public, reigniting calls for improved student safety both on and off campus. Local leaders and advocacy groups have urged law enforcement to expedite the case and ensure a fair trial.

The outcome of Friday’s court session will determine whether the suspect faces formal murder charges as investigators conclude their findings.
