Launching the Wildlife Research and Training Institute’s (WRTI) Strategic Plan (2023-2027) marks a pivotal moment in Kenya’s journey toward sustainable wildlife management and conservation.

This ambitious plan represents a significant milestone for the Institute and underscores Kenya’s commitment to aligning its conservation efforts with the Government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

During the launch, WRTI Board Chair Dr. David Nkedianye highlighted the collaborative nature of the plan’s development.

He emphasized how the strategies, shaped through the input of experts, management, and stakeholders, provide a flexible and impactful roadmap for addressing current conservation challenges while leveraging new opportunities.

He acknowledged the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife, led by Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano, and the State Department of Wildlife, headed by Principal Secretary Teresia Museiya, for their continuous support.

Dr. Nkedianye stated, “This moment represents not just a milestone for the Institute, but for the entire country in support of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, as we forge a path towards sustainable conservation and the responsible management of our wildlife resources.”

In his address, Dr. Nkedianye highlighted the bold vision embodied in the newly launched Strategic Plan. “By launching this ambitious Strategic Plan (2023-2027), we are taking a bold step in wildlife research and training in the country. This plan is designed to address today’s conservation challenges while opening doors to new opportunities,” he said.

Through this new plan, WRTI aims to lead Kenya’s efforts in wildlife research, ensuring a future where people and wildlife coexist harmoniously.

By working closely with the Government and stakeholders, the Institute is set to create lasting impacts on the country’s conservation landscape, reflecting a vision where both people and wildlife thrive together.
