Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju is facing possible criminal charges after police indicated plans to prosecute him for allegedly giving false information to authorities.
According to his lawyer, Ndegwa Njiru, investigators have concluded their preliminary inquiries and are now seeking to formally charge Tuju, a development that could escalate his ongoing legal battles.
Ndegwa stated that the move by police is part of a broader pattern of pressure against his client, insisting that Tuju has cooperated fully with investigators and denies any wrongdoing. He maintained that the allegations lack merit and will be challenged in court.
The potential charges relate to claims that Tuju provided misleading or inaccurate statements during the course of investigations tied to his business dealings and a high-stakes financial dispute involving Dari Limited, a company associated with him.
The case has already attracted significant public attention, particularly following recent court proceedings in which Tuju sought legal relief in a multi-billion shilling loan dispute. Legal analysts note that a criminal charge of giving false information could complicate his position in both civil and criminal arenas.
Sources within investigative agencies indicate that if approved, the charges could be filed in the coming days, setting the stage for a high-profile court battle.
Tuju, a seasoned politician and former government spokesperson, has in recent months been at the center of multiple legal challenges, with his legal team maintaining that he is being unfairly targeted.
The matter now awaits formal action by prosecutors, who will determine whether the evidence gathered meets the threshold for criminal charges
