Naivas Supermarkets Names Andreas von Paleske as New CEO
Naivas Supermarkets has officially appointed Andreas von Paleske new Naivas CEO, marking a new era for Kenya’s largest retail chain. Von Paleske will assume the position on November 1, succeeding long-serving CEO and founding member David Kimani, who steps down after decades of leadership.
Leadership Transition and Legacy
Andreas von Paleske currently serves as Chief of Strategy at Naivas, a role he has held for the past eight years. During this period, he has played a pivotal role in driving the retailer’s expansion strategy, guiding its growth to over 100 branches nationwide.
Outgoing CEO David Kimani, who has been instrumental in Naivas’ journey since its founding, said his decision to step down coincides with the company’s 35th anniversary. However, he will continue to play an active advisory role alongside the Mukuha family.
“Having achieved several landmark milestones in recent years, and with a strong leadership team in place, I could not think of a better time than our 35th anniversary to hand over the baton to Andreas,” Kimani said in a statement.

Continuity and Future Growth
Naivas International Chairman Arnaud Lagesse commended Kimani for his dedication and leadership, describing him as a “central figure” in building one of Kenya’s biggest retail success stories.
“With Andreas, we have the right leader to take the business to even greater heights,” Lagesse said. “His appointment ensures continuity and positions Naivas for its next phase of growth.”
Under the joint leadership of Kimani and von Paleske, Naivas has maintained its dominance in Kenya’s retail sector — outpacing competitors through innovative customer experiences, digital transformation, and steady expansion into emerging towns.
