The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced consultancy vacancies in the Lesseru–Kitale and Morpus–Lokichar road project, a Ksh28.8 billion initiative funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB). The authority said part of the financing will support consultancy services for community health awareness and sensitisation campaigns along the key highway corridor.
Consultancy Call for Health and Gender Awareness
In a notice issued on Tuesday, KeNHA said part of the AfDB loan would fund consultancy services for community health awareness and sensitisation campaigns along the two major highway sections. The initiative aims to integrate health, safety, and gender awareness programmes into the project.
The campaign will cover HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), tuberculosis, malaria, mental health, substance abuse, and reproductive health, while promoting gender mainstreaming and safeguarding the welfare of workers and local communities affected by the construction works.
According to KeNHA, “the Government of the Republic of Kenya has received financing from the African Development Bank to finance the Multinational Kenya–South Sudan Road Corridor, Lesseru–Kitale and Morpus–Lokichar Road Upgrading Project (Phase 1).”
Upgrading the Key Kenya–South Sudan Corridor
The 197-kilometre road corridor runs through Lesseru, Nadapal, and Kapoeta. It connects to Juba, South Sudan, forming a key segment of the Trans-African Highway network. The upgrade will include a seven-metre-wide single carriageway and bitumen re-carpeting. It will also develop service roads, town loops, access roads, and other socioeconomic infrastructure.
KeNHA stated that the consultancy contract will run for 48 months. Interested firms must demonstrate relevant experience in similar assignments, technical expertise, and staff capacity.
Application Details and Deadline
Qualified consultants can download the Expression of Interest (EoI) documents from KeNHA’s website or the Government of Kenya Supplier Portal. Submissions must be clearly marked with the assignment title and tender number. They must be deposited at KeNHA headquarters by Tuesday, October 28.
The move is part of Kenya’s ongoing efforts to strengthen regional connectivity and promote inclusive development. It involves infrastructure projects that also address community health and gender needs.
