KANU Youth Reject Moi-Ruto Political Deal
The Kenya African National Union (KANU) Youth Congress has publicly distanced itself from Chairman Gideon Moi’s new alliance with President William Ruto’s administration.
In a statement issued Tuesday, October 14, 2025, the youth wing declared the partnership “incompatible” with KANU’s core values of accountability, rule of law, and human rights.
“Values Do Not Align,” Youth Say
“We fully dissociate from the newfound partnership between our National Chairman and H.E. President William Ruto,” the statement read.
The group accused the government of enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, corruption, and undermining independent institutions.
They stressed that no coalition can legitimize a regime that “violates constitutional governance.”
Demand for Real Reform, Not Political Unity
The youth dismissed Ruto’s “broad-based government” as a “fallacy” and “the kicks of a dying horse.”
Instead, they called for urgent action on:
- Reviving the collapsing health sector
- Making education affordable and accessible
- Ending enforced disappearances of critics
- Creating jobs for unemployed youth
- Prioritizing industrialization over taxation
“We need the system to work—not just politicians shaking hands,” the statement emphasized.
Moi Joins Government Amid By-Election Withdrawal
The rift follows President Ruto’s October 10 announcement that KANU would join his unity government. Ruto said he personally reached out to Moi to “move the country forward.”
Days earlier, Moi withdrew from the Baringo Senatorial by-election, clearing the way for UDA’s candidate—a move seen as sealing the political truce.
But the KANU Youth Congress insists this deal betrays the party’s legacy and the people’s trust.
