Kalonzo Musyoka Cancels UK Trip for Raila Odinga’s Funeral
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has cancelled his official engagements in the United Kingdom to return to Kenya for the funeral of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
On October 16, Kalonzo’s secretariat released a statement. Zein Abubakar leads the secretariat. They confirmed he departed from London’s Heathrow Airport. He will arrive at JKIA at 6 a.m. on Friday, October 17, 2025.
“The Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) Leader, His Excellency Dr Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, EGH, SC, CS, has departed from Heathrow International Airport, London, for Nairobi, Kenya,” the statement read.
Upon arrival, the Wiper Party leader will join Raila Odinga’s family, close friends, and thousands of mourners to pay his last respects.
Kalonzo’s Planned UK Visit
Kalonzo had announced earlier in the month that he would travel to the UK for ten days, beginning October 8, 2025, following his endorsement by the Wiper Democratic Movement as a presidential aspirant ahead of Kenya’s 2027 General Election.
During his overseas visit, he was expected to engage with high-profile institutions. He would also meet with Kenyan diaspora leaders and key policy makers. The diplomatic and strategic meetings focused on crucial areas like governance and economic empowerment. A central theme was national renewal, aligning with Wiper’s goal to strengthen global partnerships. The overall strategy was to significantly elevate Kenya’s global standing.
According to Senator Abdalla Shakila, the trip also included a scheduled meeting with the Commonwealth Secretariat, reflecting the growing international recognition of Kalonzo’s political influence.
Raila Odinga’s death profoundly affects the whole nation. Kalonzo has thus prioritized joining the national mourning period. He will participate in the planned state and traditional ceremonies. These public ceremonies lead up to the final burial in Bondo, Siaya County.
