If you have ever found yourself running out of airtime in the middle of an important call, you know how frustrating prepaid life can be. Topping up every few days or rushing to buy bundles feels endless. That is why Safaricom introduced PostPay, a plan that lets you enjoy calls, SMS, and data first, then settle your bill later at the end of the month. It is about convenience, peace of mind, and freedom from constant recharge. In this guide, we’ll walk through exactly how to join PostPay Safaricom in just a few steps.

Quick Answer — At a Glance

  1. Dial *544# on your Safaricom line.

  2. Select Join PostPay from the menu.

  3. Choose your credit limit or plan, then provide your email.

  4. Accept the terms and confirm your migration.

  5. Start enjoying PostPay and pay your bill by the due date.

Step-by-Step Guide to Join PostPay Safaricom

1. Check Eligibility

To join, you must already be on Safaricom PrePay and have a registered SIM card linked to your ID. Corporate accounts are not eligible.

2. Dial the USSD Code

On your Safaricom line, dial *544# and select Join PostPay from the options. The process is quick and done right from your phone as explained on Safaricom’s PostPay page.

3. Pick a Credit Limit or Plan

Safaricom will suggest a credit limit based on your usage. You can accept it or request a higher one. If you ask for more than allocated, you might be required to pay a small deposit as security.

4. Enter Your Email Address

Provide a valid email address where your monthly bill will be sent. This helps you track your usage and payments.

5. Accept the Terms

Read through the displayed terms and conditions and accept them to proceed. These cover things like billing timelines, payment channels, and consequences of late payment.

6. Get Confirmation

Once confirmed, your line switches from PrePay to PostPay. You’ll receive an SMS welcoming you to the service, and you can start enjoying your bundle right away.

7. Pay Your Monthly Bill

Bills are usually due by the 5th of every month. You can pay conveniently through M-PESA using PayBill 200200, with your mobile number as the account number. Details are explained on Safaricom’s payment guide.

Important Notes & Tips

  • If you request a higher limit than Safaricom allocates, you may need to pay a refundable deposit.

  • Bills unpaid after the due date may result in temporary disconnection and eventual migration back to PrePay.

  • Safaricom occasionally introduces new PostPay plans such as the “Emerald” bundles, so keep an eye on updates.

  • You can still pay your bill with Bonga Points if you want to save some cash.

FAQs

What is PostPay Safaricom?
It is a monthly plan where you use calls, SMS, and data first, then pay later at the end of the billing cycle.

Can I switch back to PrePay if I don’t like PostPay?
Yes. You can request to be migrated back to PrePay at any time, especially after clearing your outstanding bill.

What happens if I don’t pay my PostPay bill on time?
Your line may be suspended, and continuous non-payment could affect your credit standing.
