You’ve waited anxiously through the exam season, and now the big question is where you or your child will be joining secondary school. The thought can be exciting but also nerve-racking, especially if you are unsure how to find out the results. Thankfully, checking KCPE school selection is simple, and you have several reliable ways to do it, whether online, by SMS, or directly through your school.

Quick Answer — At a Glance

  1. Visit the Ministry of Education’s Form One Selection portal

  2. Use the KEMIS placement system with your KCPE index number

  3. Send an SMS with your index number to 22263

  4. Confirm details from your primary school or county education office

  5. Contact the Ministry if you face any challenges

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Go to the official Form One Selection website

    • Open a browser on your phone or computer and visit the Ministry of Education’s “Form One Selection and Placement” page on education.go.ke.

    • Look for the link labeled “Form One Placement” and click it.

  2. Use the KEMIS placement portal

    • Visit kemis.education.go.ke.

    • Enter your KCPE index number, full name, and any other details requested.

    • Submit and view the school you have been placed in.

  3. Check using SMS

    • Open the messaging app on your phone.

    • Type your KCPE index number only as the message.

    • Send it to 22263.

    • Wait for a reply with details of your placement. According to biznakenya.com, this service usually costs KSh 25.

  4. Confirm through your former primary school or county office

    • Many schools display selection results on notice boards for students and parents.

    • You can also visit the county education office or speak to the Director of Education if online or SMS methods do not work.

  5. Follow up if something seems wrong

    • If you see an error or “Not Placed,” reach out to the Ministry of Education or KEMIS support team.

    • Sometimes this happens because of data mismatches or system delays.

Important Notes & Tips

  • Keep your KCPE index number safe since it is required in all checking methods.

  • Double-check spelling and numbers before submitting details online or via SMS.

  • If the system is slow, try again later since many people check results at the same time.

  • Placement is guided by KCPE marks, the schools you selected, and available space in those schools.

  • Under the government’s 100 percent transition policy, every candidate is guaranteed a placement.

FAQs

What if my result shows “Not Placed”?
This may happen due to system delays or missing data. Contact the Ministry or county education office for assistance.

Can I change the school I am placed in?
In most cases no. Placement is considered final, but there may be limited opportunities for transfer under special circumstances.

Does every KCPE candidate get placed?
Yes. The government policy ensures every student transitions to secondary school, though not everyone gets their first choice.

When is school selection usually released?
Placement results are normally released a few weeks after KCPE results, often before the year ends.

Will I need an admission letter?
Yes. Once placed, you can download your admission letter from the portal or collect it through your primary school.
