Drama Erupts in Parliament Over Social Health Authority
A fiery confrontation between Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale and MPs halted a National Assembly Health Committee session on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.
Duale Accuses MP of Owning Closed Hospitals
Kitutu Chache South MP Anthony Kibagendi questioned Duale about the Social Health Authority (SHA). The CS responded by accusing him of owning two health facilities recently shut over fraud.
“I have closed your hospitals,” Duale declared. Kibagendi shot back: “I have no hospitals. I’ve never owned even a dispensary.”
The MP accused Duale of dodging SHA accountability by making false claims. “Each time I ask hard questions, he says he closed my hospitals,” Kibagendi later posted on Facebook.
Tensions Escalate in Committee Room
Duale ignored repeated calls to order from committee chair James Nyikal (Seme MP). He then clashed with Nandi Woman Rep Cynthia Muge, accusing her of intimidation.
The CS went further, alleging multiple committee members own private health facilities. “They should not be in this committee,” he insisted, threatening to name them.
Kibagendi demanded proof. “Name the hospitals, their registration dates, and my so-called proxies,” he challenged. “Then close them—and answer our SHA questions.”
Session Collapses Amid Chaos
The explosive exchange caused most lawmakers to walk out. Only three MPs remained to continue the session.
The incident highlights growing tensions over SHA transparency. MPs say Duale is using deflection tactics to avoid scrutiny of alleged conflicts of interest and mismanagement.
