Cattle Thief Burned by Mob After Attempted Theft in Nyeri County

A suspected cattle thief is recovering from serious burn injuries after being attacked by an angry mob in Kandune, Lusoi area of Nyeri County, following an alleged theft incident involving livestock.

The dramatic incident occurred when local residents reportedly caught the suspect transporting a stolen cow in a vehicle, sparking outrage among members of the public.

Suspect Allegedly Stole Cow From Rongai

According to preliminary reports, the suspect had allegedly stolen a cow from the Rongai area and was attempting to transport the animal using a Toyota Sienta vehicle.

Residents in Kandune, Lusoi became suspicious after spotting the vehicle carrying the animal. Upon confronting the suspect, they discovered the cow inside the car, leading to chaos as locals attempted to stop what they believed was a livestock theft.

Cattle theft remains a serious issue in many rural parts of Kenya, where livestock represents a significant economic asset for families and farmers.

Mob Sets Vehicle on Fire

Witnesses say the situation quickly escalated after the suspect was overpowered by members of the public. In anger, residents set the Toyota Sienta on fire and allegedly assaulted the suspect before authorities could intervene.

The suspect sustained burn injuries during the incident and was left injured at the scene as tensions ran high among the crowd.

Mob justice incidents have occasionally been reported in various parts of the country when communities confront suspected criminals before law enforcement arrives.

Police Rescue Suspect and Recover Cow

Police officers later arrived at the scene and rescued the suspect from the crowd. He was taken into custody and later transported for medical attention due to the injuries sustained during the incident.

Authorities confirmed that the cow believed to have been stolen was successfully recovered.

The suspect remains under police custody as investigations continue to determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged theft.

Warning Against Mob Justice

Security officials have repeatedly warned the public against taking the law into their own hands. While livestock theft can cause major financial losses for farmers, authorities emphasize that suspects should always be handed over to the police for proper investigation and prosecution.

The case is now under investigation as police seek to establish the full details of the incident.
