Catholic Nun in Court Over Killing of Fellow Nun in Meru
A Catholic nun accused in connection with the killing of fellow nun in Meru appeared before a Meru law court on Tuesday as detectives sought more time to investigate the case.
Police Seek 14 Days to Complete Probe
Sister Caroline Kanjiru was presented in court for a miscellaneous mention. She is suspected of involvement in Sister Ansilime Karimi’s death.
Investigating officer Abdul Tulla asked to detain her for 14 days. He cited the need to complete inquiries into the suspicious death.
The officer described Sister Caroline as a possible flight risk, urging the court to deny her release until critical forensic and witness investigations are concluded.
Contradictory Accounts Raise Questions
According to the prosecution, Sister Caroline claimed that Sister Ansilime died on the way to Nkubu Hospital.
The court was told that these injuries suggest a possible struggle before her death. Detectives are now pursuing leads to determine whether foul play was involved.
Defence Requests Release on Bond
In her defence, Sister Caroline’s lawyer argued that the nun is not a flight risk and should be released on bond. The counsel maintained that she would cooperate fully with investigators and appear before the court whenever required.
The magistrate is expected to rule on whether Sister Caroline will remain in custody or be released on bond as police continue probing the incident. The case has drawn widespread attention within the religious community, with calls for transparency and justice for Sister Ansilime.
