Boni Khalwale Opposes UDA Candidate in Malava By-Election
Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has publicly rejected UDA’s Malava parliamentary candidate, David Ndakwa, and thrown his support behind DAP-K’s Seth Panyako.
Speaking on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, Khalwale said his stance is a response to President William Ruto’s failure to honor the late Malava MP Malulu Injendi’s family.
“Ryan Was Denied What Others Received”
Khalwale noted that after the deaths of Baringo Senator William Cheptumo and Migori’s Dalmas Otieno, their widows received top state appointments. But Ryan Injendi—Malulu’s son—was denied the UDA ticket.
“I thought you would allow him to serve as MP,” Khalwale said. “Instead, you brought an MCA. So now, we’ll decide who to vote for without your interference.”
He accused a Cabinet Secretary of meddling in Malava’s campaign and insulting him for not backing UDA. Khalwale demanded clarity: Was the CS acting on the President’s orders?
Warning to State House
Khalwale reminded Ruto that Kakamega delivered votes in 2022. “If you want votes in 2027, no one but me—Dr. Boni Khalwale—can deliver them,” he warned.
Ryan Injendi’s Earlier Claims
Ryan Injendi, who lost the UDA nomination on September 21, blamed Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi for influencing the primary. He claimed party leaders stayed neutral, but the PCS intervened unfairly.
Despite his loss, Ryan congratulated Ndakwa and urged him to keep Malava aligned with the government.
Khalwale’s move signals deepening fractures within UDA in Western Kenya ahead of the by-election.
