Calls for justice are intensifying following the tragic death of 22-year-old university student Consolata “Connie” Githinji in Kileleshwa, with political leaders and the public demanding swift and decisive action from investigative authorities.
In a strongly worded statement, Robert Alai, the Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Kileleshwa Ward, urged law enforcement agencies to hold every individual linked to the incident accountable, whether through direct involvement or negligence.
At the center of his demand is a call to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) to act with urgency and ensure that justice is not delayed.
Connie, a fourth-year student at Murang’a University of Technology, lost her life under troubling circumstances after reportedly falling from the sixth floor of an apartment in Kileleshwa along Laikipia Road.
Her death has sparked widespread outrage, not only because of her young age and promising future, but also due to the unanswered questions surrounding the events leading up to her final moments.
Described as a daughter, sister, and friend, Connie’s passing has left a deep emotional scar on her family, classmates, and the broader Kenyan community.
According to reports referenced in the statement, CCTV footage captured a sequence of events that investigators now consider crucial, including her arrival at the apartment in the early hours of the morning, movements within the premises, and activity involving individuals entering and exiting the unit during the same timeframe.
These details have intensified calls for a thorough forensic and digital analysis to establish exactly what transpired.
Alai’s statement makes it clear that responsibility must extend beyond any direct suspect, emphasizing that acts of omission, failures to act responsibly, must be treated as seriously as direct involvement.
He specifically pointed to apartment owners and operators, accusing them of failing in their duty to properly vet and register guests, warning that negligence in guest registration and security oversight cannot be ignored.
Investigations are now expected to examine the operational standards of the apartment complex, including guest registration procedures, security personnel conduct and supervision, compliance with county licensing and safety regulations, and the use and integrity of CCTV surveillance systems.
Authorities are also being urged to question all individuals connected to the booking and occupancy of the apartment unit in question, especially amid reports that it may have been booked under a third party’s name.
The MCA has called on the DCI to deploy all available investigative tools, ranging from forensic analysis to digital tracking, while urging the ODPP to ensure that all evidence leads to prompt prosecutions.
He stressed that justice must not only be done but be seen to be done, warning against any attempt to shield individuals from accountability.

This incident has reignited concerns over the rapid growth of short-term rental apartments in Nairobi’s residential areas, particularly in neighborhoods like Kileleshwa, where critics argue that lax regulation has created environments where guest identities are not properly verified, security measures are inconsistently enforced, and accountability becomes difficult in the event of incidents.
Leaders and residents alike are now calling for stricter enforcement of regulations governing such establishments.
As investigations continue, the message from Kileleshwa residents and leaders remains firm: justice for Connie must be pursued relentlessly, with Alai maintaining that neither he nor the community will rest until every person responsible, directly or indirectly, is brought before the law.
The tragic death has now become more than an isolated incident; it is a rallying point for accountability, safety reforms, and justice for victims of negligence and crime.
The coming days will be critical as authorities respond to mounting public pressure, with the spotlight firmly on investigative agencies to deliver answers and ensure that justice is served.
