Two Dead as Trucks Crash Head-On, Burst Into Flames Along Eldoret-Malaba Highway
At least two people have died after two trucks collided and burst into flames along the Eldoret–Malaba Highway on Tuesday night.
Collision Sparks Inferno Near Turbo Market
The deadly crash occurred in the Mwamba area, just a few metres from Turbo Market. Witnesses said one trailer was overtaking on a hill when it hit another truck approaching at high speed from the opposite direction.
The impact caused both vehicles to catch fire, killing two people instantly. Several others may have been injured, though authorities had not confirmed the exact number by the time of reporting.
Fire Guts Trucks, Traffic Brought to Standstill
The collision triggered a massive blaze that engulfed both trucks as passers-by and motorists watched helplessly. The inferno caused a major traffic jam along the busy highway, disrupting movement for hours.
Police officers and rescue teams rushed to the scene and managed to contain the fire, but both trucks were completely destroyed. Photos and videos captured from the scene showed flames consuming the wreckage amid thick smoke.
Investigations Underway
Police have launched investigations to determine the exact cause of the crash. Preliminary reports suggest that reckless overtaking on the hilly section of the highway may have been a factor.
The incident adds to a growing number of fatal accidents on Kenyan highways in recent weeks, raising renewed concerns over driver discipline and road safety enforcement.
Recent Accidents Highlight Rising Road Risks
The tragedy came just a day after a separate accident in Nairobi’s CBD, where one person died and several others were injured when a Citi Hoppa bus overturned. The Kenya Red Cross reported that emergency crews rescued trapped passengers during the late-night crash.
Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution, especially on high-speed and steep sections of major highways, as investigations into both accidents continue.
